One of the biggest parts of film making is the sound. When making films the sound isn't just about the dialogue and the obvious noises. There are always the sounds that film watchers don't necessarily "notice" but would get irritated and definitely notice if the sounds weren't there at all.

Different Types of Mics:

- Body/Lav Mic: what we use for interviews or one on ones

- Boom Mic: Things that are held above thescene during shooting

- Omnidirectional: records sound coming at every direction

- Bidirectional: Pick up sound directly in front of and behind

- Cardioid: Pick up sound in direction its pointed and some behind and on the sides

- Subcardioid: between cardioid and omnidirectional

- Super/Hyper - Cardioid: When people are huddled together and you want to get specific sounds or dialogues

- Lobar: Picks ups sound in specific direction and at a farther length

Crash Course Film
Film Sound Project

For our first project we had to take the sound out of a film and add new sound to all of it. I used youtube for the sound effects and music and put them into clipgrab in order to get it into final cut. I added new effects that weren't in the original film like the "hmm" sounds that the men made. Below are the pictures of what my final cut looked like after I had added all sounds and music. The hardest part were the footsteps. It's super hard to find the right tempo and length and weight of a footstep when you can't describe a sound into a search bar. When I get to bigger films I can use the tascam to record my own sounds, but I wanted to start off just working with what I had on the computer. Things like footsteps and dialogue noises will be much easier using a tascam because I can make it sound like exactly how I would like, and sound can make or break a film so I am excited for that.
