Behind the Scenes Silence of the Lambs

I watched behind the scenes of the Silence of the Lambs. It was really interesting to see what the problems they had were because with such a classic such as this movie you can’t imagine them having to overcome anything. I never realized how much they were having trouble with until I watched this. They had trouble financing, and finding a director and finding the right cast. Everything didn’t fall into place, it wasn’t one of those stories. They all had to work hard to find people who were not only willing but who were excited about the storyline and who could really envelop the characters.

Preproduction was a very important part because it was based on a book. The book seemed gory and the cast and directors didn’t want the movie to be gory and laughable. The main purpose of the movie was to be creepy and scary in a different way than what the chainsaw massacre movies were. The fear needed to be felt by the actors and the actor who played Hannibal needed to be scary in a way that he made you uncomfortable because of how smart he was. I thought that it was really ironic that they had so much trouble finding a director because the final product was such a magical film, and a ton of that is due to the director. With any movie, you can never know what it would be like with a different director, but it was odd to see who could have potentially directed this classic movie.

I loved this movie and it really helps me as a director, actor, producer, or whatever other position I take place as while filming, to see that in order to make the best product you have to have the worst things happen to you. You need to have trouble casting because if it’s easy you have the wrong people. You need to mess up shots because if you got it on the first try then you probably didn’t get the best emotion or lighting or sound that you could have if you had messed up. I guess it’s just nice to see that no matter how experienced you are or what film you are trying to create, there are always going to be struggles. It is our job as directors and producers to overcome them anyway and make the best movie that we can.

The behind the scenes that I watched was Silence of the Lambs. The video is below.
